Origin Story
Melanating Missions was born from a question that was impossible to ignore: Where are the Black missionaries?
After years of traveling internationally, serving communities, and leading mission teams, our founder, Denise Henderson, saw a consistent gap—African Americans and people of color were significantly underrepresented in global missions. Yet across the very nations being served were communities that looked like us, shared aspects of our culture, and could be reached through voices and experiences that felt familiar. Denise began to envision what could happen if more Black and Brown people were not only invited into missions, but intentionally equipped and empowered to go.
That vision became Melanating Missions. We exist to educate, equip, and launch African Americans and people of color to fulfill the Great Commission and take their gifts, skills, stories, and faith to the nations. We believe representation matters—not simply because people should see someone who looks like them, but because the Kingdom of God is made up of every nation, tribe, people, and tongue. We are building a movement of missionaries who are ready to go, ready to serve, and ready to make an eternal impact.
